Horses Needing Homes PDF Print E-mail

The AEWA recieves many calls for help from horse owners and carers to find alternative homes for their animals.  We particularly get a lot of calls in the Winter, when horses need the most feed and care to keep them healthy.

Horses end up needing to be re-homed for many different reasons, sometimes financial, sometimes through lack of knowledge.  Sometimes the owners circumstances change and they are unable to continue caring for a horse.  Whatever the circumstances, we will assist owners to fnd homes for horses though this website and our extensive network of members in Tasmania.

Here is a list of current horses in need.  Please contact us if you feel you can help any of these horses to find new homes.

A donation to the AEWA will help us to improve this service, so please give generously using the Paypal Donate button on this site.

Please note that at this time we can only assist Tasmanian horses to find new homes.

Scruffy, Bay TB Mare, 12yrs - Ellendale, South Tas.

Scruffy is a very sweet bay mare who is an ex-Jim Turner horse.  Scruffy suffered terribly due to neglect in 2007 and was rehabbed by an AEWA member after her seizure.

Scruffy found herself in need of a home again earlier this year and Emma Haswell of Brightside Farm Sanctuary stepped in to provide a home and further rehab.  She is now residing in Ellendale under the care of Brightside.

Scruffy is seeking her 'forever' home.  She has a gentle nature but needs an experienced and consistent handler.  She has raced but has had no training since this (that we know of).  She had a terrible hoof injury that has been successfully rehabbed by Leigh Martin, and has shown promising progress in ground handling.  Would make a great project or companion horse.

Photos are of her before she was seized, after she was rehabbed and below are two recent photos.

Binky - Prospect, North Tas.

We have been informed of a pony needing a new home in the Prospect area.  Binky is 10 years old and in good condition.  Unfortunately he is partly blind so he can't be ridden.  His owner inherited  him from the neighbour and has kept Binky on the neighbours property until now.  The block has since been overtaken by the Salvos who are looking to sell it off.  Hence Binky needs a new home.  The current owner is able to pay his upkeep and may be able to pay a small agistment fee, but is looking for a home close by.

He may be interested in adopting out Binky if someone is keen.

Please contact the AEWA at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you can help and we will put you in touch with the owner.
