Australian Equine Welfare Association (AEWA)
Our Policy PDF Print E-mail

The AEWA recognises that welfare issues exist, to varying degrees, in all areas of equine related sport, recreation and industry.

  • These issues can exist for many reasons, including: poor planning; lack of, or inadequate industry guidelines; poor management; lack of funds; lack of knowledge; or a combination of any of these.

  • We do not agree with any practice that leads to cruelty, neglect or abuse in any equine related sport or industry.

  • It is the AEWA's policy to work with the horse industry to create positive change through education, advocacy and practical help where possible.

Mission statement

To promote the welfare and wellbeing of horses in Australia. To do this by lobbying for changes in the law to promote equine welfare; by educating and informing prospective and existing horse owners; and to re-educate and rehome neglected and abused horses.
